WACE ATAR Chemistry

WACE ATAR Chemistry

From atomic structure to organic synthesis — the reasoning behind every reaction.

Chemistry punishes students who memorise and rewards those who reason from structure and energy. Lessons build each idea from bonding and electron behaviour upward, then train the calculation layout and extended-response structure the exam expects.

Course Structure

Built for understanding first, then top-level exam performance

A complete program across all four units of WACE ATAR Chemistry, built so students can explain why a reaction behaves as it does rather than recalling that it does.

Atomic structure and bonding

Stoichiometry and the mole

Intermolecular forces

Chemical equilibrium

Acids, bases and redox

Organic chemistry and synthesis

Syllabus Coverage

Full WACE coverage, lesson by lesson

Students are guided through every major unit in a clear order so nothing important gets skipped or rushed. Lesson notes, practice questions and video lessons for each unit are available inside the student portal.

Lesson 1 Silver+

Unit 1 — Chemical fundamentals: structure, properties and reactions

Atomic structure and the periodic table, chemical bonding, intermolecular forces, and quantitative chemistry including the mole and stoichiometry.

Lesson 2 Gold+

Unit 2 — Molecular interactions and reactions

Intermolecular forces and their effect on properties, aqueous solutions and solubility, acids and bases, and rates of reaction.

Lesson 3 Gold+

Unit 3 — Equilibrium, acids and bases, and redox reactions

Chemical equilibrium and Le Chatelier's principle, acid-base equilibria and buffers, volumetric analysis, and oxidation-reduction including electrochemical cells.

Lesson 4 Platinum+

Unit 4 — Organic chemistry and chemical synthesis

Organic functional groups and reaction pathways, polymers, analytical techniques, and designing a chemical synthesis.

Taught by a specialist in this subject

This course is led by someone who teaches it and nothing else.

Dr Hannah Brooks

Head of Chemistry

PhD in physical chemistry and nine years teaching WACE ATAR Chemistry. Hannah teaches reactions from bonding and energy upward, so students can reason their way through an unfamiliar mechanism instead of hunting for one they have seen.
